Wallet @ Klarna App

Q2 2021 — Q3 2021

The Klarna App helps customers with their payment settlements, shop exploration, and money management . Following a phase of hypergrowth, the app became cluttered and unscalable. As the design leader of the banking and wallet teams, we worked towards improving the access to people’s financial information and deepen our understanding of how to make the app more useful to serve for their spending and saving needs.

Understanding the success of super apps

Our solution approach began with two product directors, myself, and two senior designers identifying and categorizing core issues.

Through comprehensive desk research and benchmarking against western and asian super apps, we distilled essential insights on their success such as: successfully integrated omni-search capabilities, streamlining complex navigation and transition system, and facilitating easier context switching between mini-apps, and enhancing product synergies such as wallet services and deals.

Our team delved into strategies inspired by APAC super apps, informed by our benchmarking. I led creative brainstorming and coordinated with cross-functional partners to explore options. This groundwork was pivotal in selecting and refining solutions for user testing.

Inspired by the successful patterns of super apps.
